I purchased the Instant Pot about a month ago, and I’ve really been experimenting with it in the last few weeks.

We’re still getting to know each other, I’ve had successes and some fails, but it’s been fun to experiment. I’m happy to report back that I’ve had more successes than failures, but working with a pressure cooker has taught me a whole new way to cook.

This recipe I’m sharing today is definitely in the success category. Probably the best one I’ve made yet!

I made these ribs on the weekend when we had family over for dinner. When I served them, the kitchen was silent, but there was a lot of moaning and groaning. Plus a few comments along the lines of “these are the best baby back ribs I’ve ever had.”

Well friends… my job here is done.

I thought I’d walk you through the process from start to finish. But once you make them the first time, you’ll realize how easy it is, and might only need to reference this recipe for cooking time.

The first step is to get the pork ribs seasoned and ready for the Instant Pot.

Two racks of ribs will feed about 4-6 people.

First, place the metal rack in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Add 1 cup of water in the bottom.

Next, place the back ribs one at a time comfortably in the pot (similar to above photo). Place the lid on the Instant Pot.

What do I love most about this recipe? I used to cook ribs in the oven for 3.5 HOURS! Now they’re done in 35 minutes. **Mind = blown**

Next, set the Instant Pot for cooking. Adjust the settings so it’s on High Pressure, for 25 minutes. Then, start it up and let it work it’s Instant Pot magic!

When the timer goes off, let the pressure decompress on its own for 10 minutes. This is also additional cooking time for the ribs.

Once that 10 minutes of resting time is up, release the valve and let the rest of the steam out. Open the lid, and check out the amazing, meaty baby back ribs you made in record time!

To finish them off, sauce them on both sides with your favourite BBQ sauce, and pop them in the oven on a baking tray at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. They’ll come out looking like this…

Ahhh my favourite part of the whole process. When they’re done and ready to eat. If you want to give them more of a barbeque flavour, you can easily pop them on the grill for 10 minutes too. I will likely do this in the summer.

Instant Pot Baby Back Ribs

Fall-off-the-bone tender pork back ribs that are cooked in record time. Have these tender ribs on the table for dinner in under 1 hour. You will never cook ribs another way again.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 35 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

  • 2 racks meaty baby back ribs
  • 1 cup water
  • 4-5 tbsp pork seasoning your choice
  • 1 bottle BBQ sauce your choice


  1. Place the wire rack in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Add one cup of water in the bottom.

  2. Season the ribs on both sides with your favourite pork seasoning. Place each rack of ribs in the Instant Pot, arranging them in a circle inside the pot. It will kind of resemble a spiral.

  3. Place the lid on the Instant Pot, and set it to cook on High Pressure, for 25 minutes. 

  4. Once the the timer goes off, and the 25 minutes it up, do NOT release the steam from the pot. Let it sit an additional 10 minutes, and let the steam decompress on its own. 

  5. Once the 10 minutes is up, press the steam valve, and let the rest of the steam release from the pot. Once it’s finished, open the lid, and place the ribs on a large baking tray.

  6. Sauce the ribs on both sides using your favourite BBQ sauce. Place them in the oven at 350 degrees, for 10 minutes. Serve immediately.
