Chewy Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars
This recipe is a classic Hershey's recipe from an old "Hershey's Best-loved Recipes" cookbook. And these bars are definitely well loved by anyone that tries them. There is always someone asking for the recipe!
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup brown sugar packed
- 3/4 cup butter softened
- 1 egg slightly beaten
- 1 package (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips divided
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 package SKOR toffee bits divided
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
In a large bowl, stir together flour and brown sugar. Using two knives, cut in the butter until the mixture is crumbly. Mix in the egg. Add in the pecans, and 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the mixture. Press the rest into the bottom of the pan. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes.
When the base comes out of the oven, pour the condensed milk evenly over the hot crust. Top with 1 1/2 cups of toffee bits. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture and 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
Sprinkle with remaining toffee bits when it comes out of the oven. Cool completely in the pan. Cut into bars and serve.
Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
